Native to Central and South America, ipe wood is the perfect wood for finishes and decking. Its color can vary in dark and medium tones, dark brown, greenish brown, olive brown, and reddish walnut. Ipe wood contains almost no knots, making its surface very uniform. Ipe lumber is an exotic wood that is extremely dense and resistant to rot, making it an ideal choice for ipe decking products and decking material.
Durability (40 to 100 years)
Fire resistant (compliance with CAN/ULC27 standards)
Mildew resistant
Insect resistant
Wood harvested from responsibly managed forests
Maintaining an ipe wood patio or deck will depend on the desired look. For a minimum of maintenance, you can choose to let it gray naturally. Once the terrace has reached this shade of gray, it will no longer be necessary to maintain it annually with oil. However, we recommend, every spring, to clean it well with soap and water. In the event that you get tired of gray, it will then be possible to restore it to its original color by applying a graying product.
To maintain its original color, you will need to clean it annually using a cleaner designed for wooden decks and patios. Once it is clean and dry (usually after a few days), you will then need to apply an oil treatment.
Undisputed champion in terms of durability, a well-maintained terrace can last up to 100 years; enough to largely compensate for the higher installation cost. Ipe wood is naturally resistant to mold, qualities ipe is known for, in addition to offering a robustness allowing it to withstand the rigors of the Quebec climate. Its fire rating makes it an ideal choice for decking.

Cedar is without a doubt the species of choice for the construction of any outdoor project: decks, fences, terraces, pavilion, etc. Recognized for its durability, however, it requires regular maintenance and the application of an oil-based stain. Well-maintained cedar decks and patios typically have a lifespan of over 20 years.
They also have the advantage of containing few or no knots, which allows us to design a very high-quality product. The most commonly used varieties of cedar are western red cedar and eastern white cedar. Both types of wood have relatively similar properties and are naturally resistant to the elements, making them an excellent choice for designing your dream deck.
Mold resistant
Highly resistant to temperature changes (does not deform or crack in humidity)
insect resistant
Is not treated with chemicals, making it an environmentally friendly decking material
You can opt for easy maintenance if you want to have a natural-looking cedar wood deck. The wood will tend to gray naturally. It is important to clean it every spring with soap and water. Cedar has natural oils that make it resistant to mold and insects.
If you choose to stain your white or red cedar decking, you will need to use an oil-based stain to prevent graying. In addition, a good annual cleaning with soap and water will be necessary annually.
Choosing cedar for the design of your deck or terrace assures you of an exterior structure in good condition for more than 20 years. As it is a very dense type of wood, it will resist splitting and warping caused by the rigors of the climate.
The pros and cons of cedar vs. pressure treated wood or composite decking should be considered when deciding on the perfect decking material for your decking project.

It is distinguished from treated wood, which is often an amalgam of different species, namely spruce, fir, and pine. It is appreciated for its straight and uniform wood grain. Of better quality than pressure treated wood(amalgamated), it offers better value for money. For smaller budgets, pine can be reserved for the exposed portions of your exterior structure.
Excellent value
Require minimal maintenance
Very nice appearance (uniform decking boards)
Suitable for all types of decks and outdoor structures: patios, decks, gazebos, fences
Treated pine requires minimal maintenance. We recommend using a water-based chemical-free stain for maintenance. This allows the wood to breathe and will not tend to chip. In addition, a good cleaning with soapy water each spring will revive its shine.
Pine patios and terraces have a lifespan of about 15 years and even more if they are well maintained. Pine is a material whose quality is highly appreciated by our customers. Because pine undergoes a pressure treatment process for ground contact, it naturally resists mold and insects.
